Juana and Lucas

By Juana Medina

Juana is an enthusiastic young girl from Bogota, Colombia. She loves to read, loves her school, loves her family and friends, but loves her dog, Lucas, best of all.

This year at school, however, she has a new challenge  she must learn English. She finds this very hard and doesn’t think it’s necessary, when she asks people she knows what they think about it, she is surprised by the responses.

Cute story and pictures. It is good because it will show children that kids from other countries are not so different from themselves. There are Spanish words sprinkled throughout the story and it would have been good for there to be a glossary in the back.

For ages 5 through 8 years old.

The Bear Who Couldn’t Sleep

By Caroline Nastro

This is a just adorable book about a bear who is supposed to be hibernating with his mother and siblings, but he can’t seem to fall asleep. He begins to wander, and his wanderings take him to NYC – the city that never sleeps.

The pictures are entertaining. Good read aloud.  Enjoy his adventures with your little ones!

Bathroom Science

By Christine Taylor-Butler

This one is fun, but you have to be prepared for the mess. That’s why they recommend the bathroom for these experiments.  It’s got the experiments, and the reasons why. So messy and educational. Good for kids and parents. What’s not to love.
