by S.E. Hinton
Tex is a happy-go-lucky kid. He is not the best in school, and he’s a bit of a jokester, but a good-natured one. He loves his horse, his brother, and his dad.
Tex’s dad is away. He travels with the rodeo and leaves his older brother Mason in charge. When Dad doesn’t show up after rodeo season is over, Mason finds money a bit tight. Mason sells their horses and this devastates Tex.
Mason is feeling the pressure. He wants out and he sees basketball as his ticket. He studies and works to do the right thing. He even breaks up with his girlfriend so there will be nothing to tie him to the town. He does try to be a father for Tex.
Tex knows he is the type that stays, and he really isn’t bothered by this, except he worries about those who will leave, like Mason, his best friend, and the girl he likes.
But Tex has to deal with his impulsiveness and with a secret that could ruin everything for them.
This is YA because of drug references and sex.
