The Library Card by Jerry Spinelli

The Library Card by Jerry Spinelli

2 out of 5 stars

Disappointing. Jerry Spinelli has written so many great books, but this one was a let down.

The main character – a library card – is featured in four short stories. In each story the card is found by a child who needs some help or guidance. But it is all too simplistic, easy, and the change happens too fast.

In one the delinquent turns his life around because he discovers books. In another a TV addict kicks the addiction by finding her biography in the library.

While I applaud the turn around, there doesn’t seem to be much conflict. That and I was looking for all the stories to come together at the end.

My final words – skip this Spinelli book.
